From Vision to Reality...
Why I created the Sacred Circle Retreat…
My last hula hoop retreat (#5) was set to take place in Bali, Indonesia in March of 2020. My husband Ronnie and I had gotten married the previous summer and decided to tack on an ’international honeymoon’ prior to the retreat. After our honeymoon, the plan was that Ronnie would return home and I would stay to co-host a transformational Flow Arts retreat with some dear friends. After 2 glorious weeks of travel with my beloved, he returned home, and our team gathered to prepare for the upcoming magic. Just days before our opening circle would commence…. well, you all remember: LOCK DOWN🔓.
While the next part of the story is enthralling and worth the tell, it’s not the subject of this message, and therefore I will just say that miracles do happen and I was able to return home on my original flight.🪽
Fast forward and leaving out a ‘few things’ — here it is 2025 and I/we currently live on a retreat property in the Hill Country of Texas. Ronnie and I were blessed with the opportunity to step into stewardship of RUBY RETREATS, LLC - ‘a retreat enterprise that partners with soulful retreat leaders and hosts to craft meaningful and memorable journeys’ at our 100 acre nature sanctuary.🙌🏽
After over a year of living on this land and coming into focus with this new venture, I realized that I had gotten so caught up in my new role that I put aside what has been so important, meaningful, and life changing for me (and so many others) - the hula hoop!
So I dusted mine off, turned on some music, and let myself get acquainted with my old friend. Immediately, as I looked around my surroundings, I could visualize and see yoga mats laid out in the Yoga Barn along with a Sacred Circle of hula hoops. I immediately knew that I needed to teach hoop dance again and test the waters to see if my Texas community had a taste for this.
I put together a 4-part Summer Series that included Yoga | Hoop | + Cold Plunge. Y’all, every class was SOLD OUT. Now I have to admit, I was honestly surprised by this! Such a beautiful community came together - some joined the whole series, some came for just one, and others enjoyed the drop-in so much that they returned for round #2! A little ‘Flow Kula’ was born this summer ♡.
After witnessing for the 100th time, the magic that unfolds when sharing the art of Hula Hooping/ Hoop Dance inside of a sacred container, I knew I needed to expand on this. So without hesitation, I began getting to work and outlining the Sacred Circle Retreat.
Now mind you, this form of play is not a simple, twirl-around-the-waist for many adults (upon beginning at least). It takes practice, concentration and fortitude to keep this plastic tube whirling. However, it’s within the challenge that something begins to unlock. A new space within arises. Concentration heightens. Determination sharpens. The ‘Flow State’ emerges.

Its powerful impact on performance in athletics, business, and creativity, as well as on well-being and motivation, has captured the attention of neuroscientists, psychologists, coaches, and therapists around the world.
True transformation often requires you to step away from your daily routine and into a new environment where you can explore yourself with fresh eyes through immersive, hands-on learning, expert guidance, and community connection.
I created this container because perspective is everything, and even when life is full, hard, challenging, uncertain, uncomfortable, tragic, or even terrifying, we still need JOY. We still need PLAY. And we still need SACRED OUTLETS to remind us that there is sweetness, love and life to be lived!
